If that's true (that they have a resistor in them) then they're doing exactly what I advised Glen Baldwin not to do, and they will put out a weak spark even under the best of conditions. Perhaps they're all marginal, even the "good" ones. If anyone has a bad chicom "24V" coil, I would love to cut it open and find out whether they really did just stick a resistor in it. If you'd do it yourself, please post the results, or if you could send me one, I would happily do it. With a resistor in the circuit, half the energy that ought to be making magnetic flux in the core, and then voltage at the spark plug, is wasted making heat in the resistor. The only way to make a coil properly is to wind it with the right number of turns of the right size wire for the intended voltage.
