Is that Thermo Tech tape? I used it on a mini pickup I put a V8 in. Worked pretty well but I too used heat shields under the floorboards.
Heat shields are easy to make as well. Just get some very thin sheet metal, think tin. Cut about 4 - 6 inches wide and leave Tab ears on both ends. Cut some slots in the tab ends and slip hose clamp through to attach the shield to the exhaust pipe itself. Make the really adjustable and easy to remove/move if needed. You don't need thick metal. It's just to stop the radiant heat and provide an air gap. Kinda like how insulation works.
