When we moved here in 1971, logging and sawmills were THE industry. There were Mom and Pop grocery stores, cafes, service stations with "on duty" mechanics, and 35# rainbow trout in the lake. Now we have Wal Mart, Home Depot, McDonald's, Taco Bell, 100s of realtors, and the occasional 10# rainbow gets caught.
Those who live off of the tourist industry here just love articles like that one. It brings money, temporary or permanent, to their pockets. Unfortunately that money doesn't get spread around very much.
There was an article in the local paper a few weeks back that was actually a little more realistic. This area has a huge population of wealthy retirees that have moved in from Calif., or elsewhere, or families who have made thousands off of land their great grandparents got for free, or a few dollars per acre, as well as a large group of people who are just barely surviving in the poverty level. I'm not sure where I am....certainly not one of the wealthy, but not quite at poverty....yet. :)
