Not to scare you, but one of my labs started limping with no apparent wound. Took him in and did the same stuff you are doing. The vet initially thought he had soft tissue damage, tendons/muscles or a bruise. However, nothing worked and it got worse over several weeks.

Finally, the regular vet recommended that we take him to a specialist and it turned out to be cancer. From the initial injury, it took two months to figure it out. By that time we had to either put him down or take the affected leg off. At the time, he was only seven and a half. If we didn't take the leg, they gave him a few weeks.

After much deliberation, we chose to take the leg off as they couldn't see any metastasis of the cancer into his lungs (the usual route). After surgery, he returned to being himself almost immediately and had another good year before he passed. It was amazing how quickly he recovered from the surgery. He mastered running around and swimming on three legs.

The cancer was kept at bay for about ten/eleven months before it spread to his lungs. We eventually had to put him down, almost exactly one year from the date of his surgery.

I hope your situation is not as serious and that you get it figured out quickly. I wish we had figured it out much quicker as this may have added time to his life.

Good luck!

Clark
