Really look in between the pads. With our dog I would occasionally find really odd stuff stuck in there. Pitch can be longer term problematic. Fox tail like grass seeds? That's all I've got.

Really quiz the vet to make sure they have covered all the bases. Make sure they know exactly how important your dog is to you. If you are willing to spare no expense make sure they know that. Your vet may be accustomed to economy customers. Or maybe it's the other way around.

Dogs like humans should always have an advocate go with them to the doctor to help make sure the patient is properly treated.
