O/t cub cadet back fire

Its about 2 years old and just starting backfiring when shouting it down. It would not fire today so I took the air filter off found fuel in the filter but the carb was only damp with fuel so I gave it a snort of starting guild and it fired up rough and would only stay running on full choke for awhile but cleared up at the end of cutting . When shutting it off the backfiring continued .
