So last year I purchased a 1956 wagon frame that had newer axles bolted on broken leaf springs and a slightly rusted Poly V8 engine. The idea behind it was to use the engine and tranny in a WDX I have, but upon teardown the engine appears to be severely rusted. The camshaft is frozen and only four of the lifters were willing to move. Three pistons were pound out of the cylinders, with the remaining still firmly present. The cylinders don't look horrible, and will likely be goo after a 30 over bore.

My question is this: Are these poly engines so hard to find that I should do everything in my power to try and save this one, or are there others out there.

I have had this block on the scrap truck twice, and both times I have taken it off. I think it most likely will not make it of the truck the third time and will head out. After new pistons, cam, lifters, rods, oil pump, pan, and distributor, plus other essentials, the cost would greatly exceed finding two or three running engines.

Thoughts on this issue?

Anyone have a poly v8 on the east coast?
