Thanks Fred, normally I would have gone for that one too, in fact I already have one around somewhere, but Dennis Spence had a copy of the ORD 8 ORDNANCE SUPPLY CATALOG, TM 9-761, 15th April 1945 for the SNL G-231 T-36 which specifies;
41-J-72 JACK, hydraulic, automobile and motor truck, (Type VII, class B) 3-ton, with handle
.. so I know that one is correct. A contact on G503 cross-referred it to the early Hein-Werner E3-9A
