Tried air, but mostly just made a mess. Ended up loosening the rear cover, pushing the shaft back to get at the deal, which turned out to be the right answer.
I have an AGR built box, which apparently substitutes a machined carrier that holds a needle bearing and an o-ring. It wasn't coming out with just some air pressure.
The o-ring was torn. Replaced it and put everything back together, we'll see if that fixes it.
