There are people who would key your rig just BECAUSE you parked sideways taking up 4 spaces. I've never had anything shiny and new, so maybe I don't fully appreciate the need to sweat every little ding and scratch.
The other thing is sometimes it's totally innocent. When my mom was getting old, I started noticing various small dents in her car with different colors of paint on them. I would ask her how that happened, and she'd have no idea. I'm sure she was responsible for parking-lot dents in a lot of other people's cars. Finally, after she got in a wreck on the freeway, I had to take her car away, after which she thought somebody had stolen it. That's a hard thing to do to somebody these days, though, when their car is their only way of going places and visiting people.
