No proof who hitI took a trip recently in my truck and camper. Part way through I noticed the slide out was really slow retracting which usually means the batteries are low. Later we stopped at a gas station and I walked down the passenger side of the truck. There it was, a football shaped gray scar on the bottom or the slide out. OK someone backed into it when the slide out was extended. It looked to be very minor and I gave it little thought.

We went camping a couple weeks later with charged batteries and the slide out was slow and making noise. So I started looking and found where one of the racks had moved and a couple of rollers were broken. Off to the dealer and during inspection the slide out transmission fails.

Bottom line it is not a cheap fix. When the slide out was hit when extended it is at its most vulnerable state with all that weight hanging out 24" on 2 rails. Basically the rails were bent/moved and the transmission gears were over stressed when it was hit. Now I need the slide out removed and the rack and pinion repaired/replaced. Repair shops are booked out a month or so but a least there is insurance to cover the damage.

Looks like my trips for the next 2 months are on hold for now which includes several truck shows that I was going to take the carryall to. The picture is of the camper and carryall at Holister a couple years back.
