just above the drivers side axle on the side of the frame maybe slightly towards the front. What you really want to look for is the body tag in combination with the frame number to know if you have an original or mis-matched truck.
the harder part is figuring out what unit the truck was assigned to, clues will be in recovering the bumper numbers and many times, they had unit insignia painted on the bumperettes
