The front one will work fine, but they can't check the balance as they don't have fixtures to fit the U-joints. The dimensions are all off from the more common stuff used today, mainly the cap diameter, which is smaller on a Spicer joint then the Detroit joints by .044".

I have a centered rear axle from the 6x6 in my truck. The rear shaft I can use, but it has the small 5106 yoke on the t-case end, while the center rear output on my t-case is the larger 5380 size, so the yoke has to be changed out.

The stock intermediate shaft is too long, plus one end needs to be swapped for the Spicer 1300 series output on my Chevy NV4500. They were hoping to be able to salvage half of the original shaft but they weren't having much luck. Even if they do just like the front shaft they can't balance either once done because the Detroit yokes don't fit in their machine, and they have no real reason or desire to buy the correct ones for obsolete u-joints.

The conversion joints will let them use more current 1410 series yokes and joints for fabrication and then the conversion joints will let it bolt up to the t-case, but they can't do the rear shaft without some way of mounting the small end either.
