Yes, there's suppose to be gear oil in there. My WDX was always leaving it's mark under the front differential housing if I let it sit for more than four or five days. Come to find out there was a pin hole in the diff housing at one end of a weld were someone had welded what must have been a crack. A dab of RTV sealant cured that.
