Flat head to radiator castings are different

Today I had the opportunity to change out the top radiator hose cast iron pipe that holds the thermostat. My original broke at the inner flange. I had a spare, but it has a side port with a short 1" pipe for the heater or something. My original was just the big single pipe. Anyone know the difference? They are both off of 230s from Power Wagons.
