You will get lots of opinions, so here is mine. If your rims and rings are in good shape, you can do the work yourself following some common sense guidelines. One advantage is that you can prevent the ring from being distorted by a yocal at the tire shop to the point where it is unusable. I did a set myself for a 1947 WF-31 recently and was really glad I learned how to do it. This was after years of leaving it to the tire shops with mixed results. Even when I have taken rims to the tire shop they don't use the cage. You can wrap chain around them while inflating or put them under the truck with a locking tire chuck so your hand is not in harm's way. In my experience, once the ring is properly seated you can expect years of trouble-free service.
