I was hired 1/1/73 by Fire District #10. This was part of Multnomah county east of the City of Portland, OR city limits. We contracted with them for some of their East county areas. D-10 worked very closely with Portland Fire and in 1984 the two departments merged into one. A few months after the merger, I asked for a transfer to North Portland and spent the last 15 years of my career driving T-22, a 100' tillered aerial, out of the St. Johns station. I retired Dec 1, 1999. Great career and Portland area is a great place to work for you young guys that may be interested. Tough to get hired when I started and tougher now. Very, very competitive and it helps if you are a minority no matter what is said in public.

Russ
