Recently I heard that the legislature here in the Heart O' Dixie has past a law that, you must pay all back taxes on a previously non-operating vehicle, to get a current tag.
We have always enjoyed the fact that all we had to do when bringing a vehicle out of slumber to drive again was, sign a form at the DMV, stating that it has not been operated on the road since its last known tag
expired. There have been county ord. passed in recent years to rid the poor of their wealth of spare parts cars by requiring a current tag to be on any vehicle, except if stored out of sight in a building. I live in a rual county which has no such county ord.
But now with this state law, I can no longer have my beloved lot of old cars,in the woods at the end of a dead end road even stored inside ,without having to buy or pay the tax on them from year to year. And they want you to pay it retroactively ! Not only that ,but with the new laws that require proof of insurance before you can even get a tag ,we'll have to get insurance, pay back taxes, and keep a current tag on any and all non-running vehicles we own. Next they'll want to tax each chicken, goat or other critter on your property. I came upon this info listening to a younger fellow complain that he couldn't get a tag for grand dads old PU unless he first paid the the back taxes. He told her that it hadn't been driven since his grand dad had died 15yrs ago at which she said it would be $275 + this years tag. God forbid a vehicle has been stored for 30 yrs. This is one sure way to get as many old cars crushed and off the road, that way the poor can be kept better under thumb because of the cost of newer used cars and the fact you can't hardly work on them yourself anymore without going deeper in debt to have someone else fix it. Isn't this the kinda stuff that brought about the rvolutionary war? I guess history will have to repeat itself, soon before its too late. Look away Look away, I can't stand to see what happening down south in Dixie.
