The early 1941 1/2 ton Dodge Command Cars and Weapons Carriers were called Jeeps, and even the 1942 3/4 ton versions until the new GI's coming into service applied that term to the Willys MB due to a massive ad campaign blitz by Willys. The old term was dispensed with r sometimes replaced by the name "Beep" (for big jeep). Many older soldiers called the MB the "Peep". However, some units still reversed the names well after that time period. In my father's unit in the Korean War the MB & M38 were called Peeps and the 1942-on 3/4 ton Weapons Carriers were called Jeeps. Not all units followed this practice.
