I think you need to add a the brake controller even if there is already a 7 terminal RV plug on the truck. You will need to look a little deeper into it. I know some of the newer trucks have the controllers integrated into the truck, but these are identified in the owners manual with directions to adjust.
I haul a two horse with a K3500 single wheel and would not haul without the electric brakes. It isn't the cargo, it is the people you drive with on the road. They don't care and use up what little room you make for a safety zone.
