Same story was related to me by my uncle who served his life in the Marines. He mentioned Okinawa and Guam as places where he saw Jeeps and other vehicles started and idled off the end of breakwaters or carriers. A friend of mine worked for a company doing cleanup in Alaska. They dug huge pits with giant Cats and drove vehicles in and covered them. All because it wasn't worth it to the government to bring them back.
