Where do you get those logs? Are they old growth or just something that grows really fast? These days in the Northwest, there aren't even the mills left that can handle the big logs, if for some reason the Forest Service decided to sell the few that are left. I was glad I got to tour the Snoqualamie Falls Weyerhauser mill when I was a kid. They had a bandsaw headrig that would zip right through them in both directions faster than I could push wood through my table saw, making slabs a foot thick, which would then go through a gang saw that would rip them into 2-bys. Everything ran on steam, even the turbine-powered cut-off saws. It was the smell of a forest dying, but it sure smelled good.
