In the '80s I needed a 251 for a project and my grandpa gave me one he'd had rebuilt. He had a long receipt for new parts and machining - including having the new pistons knurled. In his mind it was kind of a high performance thing.
We took it apart years later and the pistons were smooth. Probably all the machine shop did was throw on some new rings and rattlecan the block.
