Is that common for them to be knurled? I haven't seen a lot of those kind of pistons, but the ones I've seen weren't knurled. On the other hand it looks like a very specific knurling pattern, as if it was done in the factory. An old timer once told me that it used to be common to knurl worn pistons in order to tight things up a bit and eke a little more life out of them.
