A lot of guys fire up their truck once a month, idle them until the thermostat opens, and shut them down. Water condenses in the exhaust, and they don't run them long enough to boil it out. Later on, you buy it, get pretty warm, and see the steam coming out. Meantime they also built up carbon from too much choke time. What you needed to do was make some full throttle runs uphill before tearing into it. Boil off the exhaust, blow the carbon out.

Don't start it if you are not going to blow it out on the road.

Smoke explanations:

White = water
Black = fuel
Blue = oil.

When I resurrect one, I do the minimum to get it on the road. Get it warmed up and test drive all systems. Smoke, bearing and gear noises, shift ability, stir up the lubes and see if they swell the seals tight again. Hey, it was all good when it was parked, mice do not eat bearings.
