Reminds me of a friend of mine who used to keep an old tube radio on his desk in his office. One day the young IT guy comes in to talk to him and idly starts trying to unscrew one of the tubes. He also made some comment about "cool light bulbs".
Whatever it is, if it doesn't pull, try unscrewing it. If it doesn't unscrew, try pulling it. But don't assume it needs more force. Good for you that you out-smarted it before trying to out-muscle it.
