Don't trust them - brakes will bleed and work fine after sitting years in a dry climate, but after some hard stops they can start hanging up, bad, out of the blue. Made that mistake twice when I was kid, got a parked truck running and thought I had good brakes. ended up fixing a stuck brake on the side of the road...didn't learn on my first WC so I got to do it again with a pw.
A ring of rust forms at the outside edge of the piston and causes hangups, and then fluid leaks out and swells up the old shoes and makes it hard to pull the drums even with the adjustment backed off. I usually adjust the wrong way the first time which makes it more fun.
