Explain Valve Guide Seals please?

OK looked in the book did not see them? Does the 230 or 218 CID have rubber Valve Guide Seals like Chevys did in the old days? Just thinking if there are then mine may be cracked, hard or not sealing on the valve guide letting oil get sucked in the head causing smoke? If so are they a pain to replace??
