you used to be able to set exhaust on fire. then catalytic converters came along and they cause the petroleum molecule chain to be broken down into smaller pieces then those pieces burn in the back of the converter. stuff I have read says 25% of the energy in a gasoline molecule is utilized. not 25 of fuel burned.
