The guy's a friend of mine, though, just up the creek from me. I was afraid the escapee was holed up in my cabin, so had just driven up to see if I could get over the mountain and check (couldn't, too much snow). About an hour later all the cops go tearing up the street, and then the medics. I haven't talked to the guy yet. I figure he probably didn't get much sleep last night, and since they didn't interview him in the paper, I assume he doesn't want his name publicized. He's an ex-marine, real good guy, cool and steady. The story is he went out to see why his dog was barking (funny thing, his dog never barks at me when I walk by) and the tweaker thief escapee "came at him". He fired several shots and hit him once in the leg. I know the guy could have plugged him square in the chest with the first shot if he'd wanted to. I'll be interested to hear the full story once he's had some time to calm down and process. I guess the escapee decided he didn't want to spend another night out on the mountain in cold rain wearing nothing but his jail outfit. And I guess he won't be a "trusty" any more. He supposedly escaped by climbing through the ceiling of the janitor's closet.
