This is a great thread and most useful for all of us running around in these old trucks and trying to share the road with soccer moms in Mercedes SUVs and kids in hot rod nissans etc! My question is this: with no tachometer, but with your ear and the above road speed/ gearing/ tire size chart what was the maximum permissible RPM from Dodge on the 217 - 218 - 230 - 251 series of engines? I am including the car displacements for a friend who has a 217 in his Plymouth Suburban and who has been asking the same questions. Any input would be greatly appreciated!
