Conventional wisdom seems to be that a grade 2 bolt is about right. The only "official" PTO winch shear pins I've seen are on the M35s (20,000 lb Braden worm drive winch built roughly like an LU4) and they are aluminum. That tells me that a grade 2 bolt is stronger than the "correct" pin, and so going any stronger than that (like to a grade 5 bolt) is risky. I have sheared a grade 2 bolt when the cable got jammed, and that's what I'll stick with.
