Hi Bill,
The Jeep spec is "universal joint lube" grade # 1 for summer and grade # 0 for winter.
Filling with 90W gear oil was common.
for a working Jeeps I have always used chassis grease since the felt seals on the axle balls normally leak the oils.
If it a show piece or not used much try the gear oil.
Waiting on the wife for my fasnachts :-)
