By "not correct", I hope you don't mean outright wrong. The 1946 edition I have of the Equipment Requirements For Motor Vehicles, published by the National Highway Users Conference, which quotes verbatim The Interstate Commerce Commission Safety Equipments Requirements, only lists mandatory equipment requirements by state. If you were operating interstate, rather than intrastate, I am sure five cab lights would be commonly found on Illinois registered trucks in order to comply with the laws of adjoining states, even in 1947.

I wish I had books to compare from other years to see how quickly things changed. Everything is included in this volume, from safety glass, flares, and coupling devices, to horns, mufflers, governors, first-aid kits, and everything in-between.

What is interesting are the oddball things we would not think of nowadays, like what is discussed in paragraph (e) of section 3.3110 of the Federal I.C.C. - Color of lighting devices: "The color blue or purple may be used on the front and rear of any motor vehicle in a device to indicate the speed at which the motor vehicle is moving."

You 5 lights are not incorrect Tom, your truck is just ready step back into 1946 and to haul loads wider than 80 inches across the bridge from Illinois into Missouri!

;^)

Junior (nice calendar btw.)
