To add to my earlier comment. I scale my truck with my trailer each time I take a long trip. Oregon State weigh stations are active even though closed.

I consistently have 8500 lbs on the trailer axles plus 1000 lbs on the trailer tongue for a total weight of just over 9500 lbs. I run a 12k lb rated tag a long trailer built buy Texas Bragg. It is an equipment trailer not a car trailer. Everyone, truckers, construction people are impressed by it.

You need to get a trailer with heavy duty 16" wheels. Do not go with 15" white light weight wheels that are found on lighter trailers. You need to have tires and axles that are rated for the load. I run a 12K trailer as that is what I feel is best fitted for the weight and longer distances I tow. I would not put either of my trucks on a 8K trailer even for a cross town trip. I want to survive.

I also feel that a 1 ton truck is the minimum for towing a PW.
