I had the same reservations when I did my truck. I chose to bend the frame rail up and not cut it. It's not that hard to do, just get you're torch out get it cherry red and bend it up. Being and engineer you can understand that this option keeps the outer edge of the frame continuous and doesn't create a spot for a crack to start.
