Sounds great! I have dreams of building a micro hydroelectric system one day, too. Since I have little faith in batteries, I think it would be nice to use windmills to fill some ponds and then let the water out to generate electricity on demand. I don't know how practical that would be, but it will be fun figuring it out.

Before I get to that stage, I would like to play with a windmill. Before I even bought this one, I knew that an old Aermotor does not make an efficient wind generator. The fan is designed all wrong, the RPMs are wrong, everything about it is wrong for generating electricity. But, I wanted an old farm windmill, just because I like them. This one is in pretty bad shape. I intend to put an automotive alternator in it on a belt drive. It won't make much electricity if it works at all, but it will be fun trying to put it to use. I have noticed that the wind blows around here when it is dark and cloudy, so it could be a well-time supplement to my grid-tied solar panels.
