A longer float, or one hinged on the end instead of the middle, would have more leverage to pull the needle out of it's seat when stuck.
Pretty much all the modern carbs had end pivot floats.
Remind me to look into a spare carb, to see if we cold poke in the vent tube to unstick a stuck float?
