The metal on these is pretty thick and can be worked back. Use some heat, hammer and dolly, go slowly. You dont want to pound the metal into thin spots, that will cause a host of other problems. If it just will not come out at least the general shape will good when you cut out the section. If you do have to cut it out, cut the patch first, lay it over the top and out-line the area to be removed. cut about 1/2 inch inside the out line and test fit the patch. When satisfied with the patch fit scribe an exact line around the patch. Remove the patch and use a jigsaw (Makes a nice cut) with a metal cutting blade to cut right on the line. This way you can butt weld the patch in, without any overlap. Use small spot or stitch welds in a cris-cross pattern and cool the metal occasionally with a wet towel; this will keep warp-age to a minimum.
