Hi, Tom. I have rebuilt a couple. My starter rebuild site has over 1600 views. I depend on a local shop for turning the commutator, etc. I disassemble, clean, inspect, test for continuity and grounds, replace bushings, repaint and reassemble.
I have five different starters on my bench right now. This one is actually the "after" type Auto-Lite unit. It is the only one with all copper wires on the armature.
Some are missing washers and spacers, etc. This one has a washer-type snap ring that is keeping the clutch on the shaft. Not sure how to remove.
Getting ready to do one for Keith's VF.
