You can't get new ones if you break them. We're always doing stuff that risks throwing pieces of metal, sparks, etc in our eyes. Safety goggles are a hassle but so is a white cane. I'm still careless, but a lot more careful than I was when I got a face full of rocks a couple years ago. I was pretty sure when I opened my eyes I wasn't going to be able to see out of them, because there was blood all over, but somehow I got lucky and the biggest piece of rock made a bloody gash in my eyebrow instead of my eyeball. If it had hit an inch lower, I'd have been blind in that eye. You only get a limited amount of luck in life, and I figure I used up mine there. Same thing with my mouth -- cut my lip open but didn't knock any teeth out. Safety goggles are cheap. I should probably buy a case of them and hang one near every grinder and power saw so I never have an excuse.
