Contractor working down the street said pex material is more expensive, but you more than make up for it with savings in labor.

Also I had a water leak before my meter. City dug op a copper kinked into an elbow coming off the main. 60 years of 120psi screaming through a kinked sharp bend opened a pin hole. This happened about three years after the buried galvanized on my side of the meter turned to swiss cheese.

Was surprised to learn water main breaks are commonly fixed with stainless collars and rubber sheets. Wonder how long those are going to last in Napa and Vallejo after the quake. 36 inch distribution line with a clamp fix?!

Everything biodegrades, given enough time.
