Cameron,

Make your own resistor. Buy some Steel fishing wire on a spool and cut about 35 feet off. Wrap it around something non conductive that wont be affected by heat such as a piece of PVC pipe. Don't let the wraps touch each other. Connect the negative post of the 12 volt battery directly to one of the fan motor leads. Connect the other motor lead to one end of the resistor and momentarily connect the other end of the resistor to the positive battery post. While the motor is running, connect a volt meter to the fan motor leads to see how many volts your resistor has reduced the 12 volt down to. If it is putting out less than 6 volts, cut a little bit of fishing wire off and re-test voltage until you are at (or near) 6 volts. 5 to 7 volts is acceptable.
