Resistor for 6v heater to run on 12v?

I am converting from 6v to 12v. My heater is obviously a 6v. I took the motor to an auto electric guy today to see if he could make it run on 12v. He said no, I would need to put a resistor in the circuit. Or, find a 12v motor and swap it out. I don't really want to swap the motor. So, anyone done this and remember what resistor you used?
