Tom: My serial # is T137 101478. The "ones" are actually "eyes". The truck is a later '56 with a syncro 420 and 12 volts system.

Several things bothered me on the engine. The oil leaks, non consistent temperature and timing. I did replace the fix the PCV issue. That tube was plugged. I also replaced the gaskets on the oil pan and valve covers. For the timing, I had 2 degrees BTDC, but the distributor was cranked all the way to the left. For the temp, it never boiled over, but the warmer it was outside the hotter the engine ran. I replaced the water distribution tube several years ago. (two of the back ports were plugged with stop leak) The previous owner dumped stop leak in the block to fix his water leaks. And then dumped more stop leak in the block... When I opened the block drain no water came out. I thought I had the wrong plug.... after I stuck a wire in the hole out came water, so I believe there is a fair amount of sediment in the block.

So the good part about this is the machine shop (a one man shop) owner owned an M37. He seems knowledgeable about these engines and will allow me to "help", which means a lot to me. I've rebuilt several engines before, but never had any formal training, so I am looking forward to this.

And my wife if looking forward to driving around in it again in a few months!
