I remember briefly during Nixon's wage and price controls, gas prices sometimes had any number of 1/10ths of a cent after them. Or maybe it was during the Arab oil embargo. I was just a kid then. But I definitely remember Nixon on TV saying "Gas will never be a dollar a gallon and break will never be a dollar a loaf."
