I like close to 10° initial for easiest starting. Add your initial timing to the specs. And remember to double the RPMs if in chassis,at the crank. That is because dist work is usually done on the bench, in a distributor machine.

Vacuum advances are usually in addition to centrifugal.
7" HG, still 0°
10" HG 3.5-5.5°
16" 8.5-10.5

I had Mark at the Dyno Shop in Santee recurve my dist, but I think he assumed OHV @ 8:1 compression. It sure was a rattle box there. So I commenced to dyno tune by the seat of my pants, and earball the pinging. IIRC, I ended up pretty close to these specs above.
