The two new Dodge trucks I have purchased with Cummins engines cost me around $5000 more for the diesel upgrade. Fuel economy alone won't justify that for a long time, especially at the level diesel fuel has been for years. To get good fuel economy out of a diesel (or gas) you either need to be committed to driving at the speed that gives you the best economy, or old enough that you don't need to go as fast as you can everywhere you go.
I wanted diesel for the longevity, and for the torque (pulling power) when pulling my trailers. But, in the winter, on icy roads, sometimes the torque can come around and bite you. Once I had close to 3000 pounds of tile in the back, and the thing still wanted to break loose on ice.
I still would love to have a 4BT in my WDX, but it's unlikely that it will happen.
