I remember about 10 years ago when I was thinking about buying a new Dodge Cummins Truck that Cummins actually said that the break-in period and oil change intervals were longer when used under higher load situations and shorter if you're just driving around town.
That was kind of the light-bulb that these things were built to work. It's kind of like a race car, they're built to run, using them like a daily driver is not really what they're tuned for.
That said, they still have an ideal operating range and red-line isn't usually it.
