Great story. The German attack was a great surprise and many units were taken unawares.
I hope some of your dad's story is written down. Nowadays, if you post something to the internet, it will basically remain forever and future researchers will be able to find it.
There are websites where stories of the war can be recorded for everyone to appreciate.
